Daily School Report 10/28/14

Dylan
Today ABA therapy was great. Occupational therapy on the other hand was not. Dylans OT, I just don't know what it is about her . Dylan can be completely happy, and then she comes over and he turns into a mess. His ABA therapist can do the same things the OT does and Dylan would be fine. For example they are starting a routine to teach Dylan to help with dressing himself. His ABA therapist can do it without Dylan screaming but it seems like as soon as the OT touches him he's in full tantrum. And I really don't know what she was trying to do taking Dylan out in the rain after we just got him dressed for school and letting him walk around and get wet. He really dislikes likes the rain. I don't remember having told her that so maybe she didn't know, but who takes a kid out to walk around in the rain with school clothes on ? I ended up having to send him with his cup on the bus which isn't supposed to be allowed but it is the only thing that will soothe him on the bus and so his bus driver makes an exception for him. I knew for sure after that OT session Dylan was going to give that bus driver a run for her money with his tantrum. I know this woman has it in her to help Dylan, she just doesn't have very much experience with small children like Dylan. Non verbal autism is a hard cookie to crack, it's kind of like playing Scrabble in a foreign language and that's not an understatement.

Today at school Dylan did the following according to the daily objectives send home sheet sent by his teacher.
  • Requested objects with single picture with open hand cue and 1 prompt ( for his bottle)
  • Sat 5 minutes at group without adult assistant.
  • Worked on age appropriate table activity for 2 minutes (puzzle with hand over hand help)
  His daily classroom actives were
  • Play skills
  • Gross motor
  • Fine motor
  • Snack
  • Morning work
  • Sensory activity
  • Calendar
  • OT
  • Lunch
  • Handwriting program
On another note Dylan's teacher made comments that today was a great day for Dylan. She said today with Dylan was in a good mood happy most of the day. She also noted that he tried peaches in his bottle today and he seemed to enjoy walking around in the sensory room.

Jasmine
Today was Jasmine's music class day. Today's song was oh Canada. They are playing games and messing around with musical instruments , then she comes home and tells me she needs to go to a hockey game and sing the national anthem. I'm not exactly sure if this is a real event or if she's just making it up I didn't get a note. She also learnt how to count by threes today, by singing a catchy song. The penguin song! She said that they almost counted to 90 by 3's. Tonight's homework is chapter 1 of a new book. That means reading that means we're going to have a argument. But we'll get through it, maybe she'll like this book better than the last one. Then it's on to practicing spelling words.

I'm she needed to go without meds last night because we ran out but I ended up getting a 7-day refill from her doctor over the phone. He doesn't usually do that but her appointment isn't till next week and this isn't a medication you can just stop. And I'm glad he did it over the phone because where the doctor is in the city is about a 50 minute drive from here. She should sleep better tonight, last night she kept waking up and talking in her sleep. She also sleep walks, sometimes she doesn't get up completely but she gets up enough to fall out of bed and get hurt when she isn't on her medication. I think she woke up about 3 or 4 times last night sleep talking. Although there is some good news about missing her medicine, she is on a medicine also at night to help control her bladder because the other medicine makes her sleep too deep. She has been out of that medicine for about 5 days now and has not wet the bed even with taking her nighttime medicine. She might be finally adjusted enough to stop taking the bladder meds :)

Thanks for stopping by:)
Jessie
