Daily School Report 01/08/15

Today we are going to skip the morning routine and go right to the good stuff. Also explaining why the report is so late today.

Joe, Jasmine, Melissa (my friend) and me all went to meet a friend we used to go to school with who we haven't seen in years since I was in middle school and since Melissa was in high school. Its was important to me to meet him, because Kyle has autism and is now in his 30's and I do not know many older people with Autism. We decided to go to The Junction of  H.O.P.E restaurant. The restaurant is really a non-profit organization here in our local community that gives hope to special needs people and helps them get a job by allowing them to work there. It is actually where Kyle works.

"The Junction of  H.O.P.E. does more than just serve food. The Junction of H.O.P.E. is a restaurant, banquet room, and training center created and dedicated to the employment of those with special needs." -The Flint Journal

While I think everyone was extremely nervous it was actually a sort of double date Joe and I, Then Kyle and Melissa. Seeing Kyle is his comfort zone was amazing. Everyone there knew him. They knew that he loved tons of coffee and were right on time refilling his cup. They kept checking in making sure he was OK, you could really tell how much they cared about him there. You could also tell how appreciative they were of the people who come in to eat there. Not to mention really amazing food!

Jasmine was a little scared she doesn't understand. Even though Jasmine herself is special needs she doesn't fully understand what special needs is. She got more comfortable after the food came out and everyone started eating. It was a really great experience and I hope to do it again soon with both Melissa and Kyle.

Dylan and Sofia stayed with my mom, while all the rest of us went to the Junction of H.O.P.E. It was a serious long right home, as we were driving in a blizzard. I had Jasmine start in on the homework as soon as we got home. She didn't finish it all before she fell asleep, but I'll have her finish it in the morning. We didn't get to do the Learning Success Program game for today but we will catch up tomorrow after school or during the weekend.

Thanks for stopping by and check back in tomorrow for another daily school report.
